The 11th annual Throwdown Surf Classic was held at Chicahauk Beach Access in Southern Shores, NC on September 28th, 2019.
This event has been growing for years and now brings an impressively large beach scene and celebration to the Northern Outer Banks. Every year, the event benefits someone in the community in need, and this year we had 2 different recipients.
As event founder Greg Sherman said, “We are raising money this year for Sonny Albarty, who is a boy over in Manteo who just had a lung transplant. The other recipient is Ian Simmons. He was measuring a window and fell off a ladder 20 feet up, so it’s been a hard road back with his recovery.”
The Christian Surfers Outer Banks Chapter steps in every year to serve the recipients, contestants, and audience members alike. This year we created a VIP tent for Sonny and Ian and their families to have a comfortable place to be all day. CSOB chapter leader Mandy Savage organized two custom boards to be given to Sunny and Ian. Many came out in the community build these two board that also boasted taylor made artwork. Each board was signed by all the contestants before given to our recipients.
From group prayer over the loudspeakers for Sonny and Ian, to the great waves and conditions we had all day, the 2019 Throwdown Event went off. Till next year! Yeeeewwww!
