Send It!

It was a typical Florida session where Surfline lied to me and I brought the wrong board. I brought my log when I should have brought my fish.. oh well. I’m already here, I might as well paddle out.

I’m in the line up and this fun wave comes through. As it gets closer, I realize I’m too deep and no way I can make it on my log. I hear a guy yell, “Send It girl!!”… So, I sent It! I was wayyy too deep, just like I thought. I’m not really sure what happened, but when I surfaced I saw my board on the beach. 

Great. The first wave of the session and I have to swim  ALL THE WAY IN for my board. It definitely didn’t help that it was freezing.

As I was swimming in for my board, I thought “Why’d I even listen to that guy. I’ve never even seen him out here. He probably doesn’t even know how to surf.”

I thought back.. some of the best waves I’ve ever caught had been because a buddie hollered and told me to “Send It”.. and some of my worst wipeout had been because I listened to some stranger (like now) to “Send It”. It was a long swim in, so I had a while to think.

The same thing goes for our spiritual lives.

How often do we listen to people telling us to “Send It” in aspects of our life, when they have no right speaking into our lives. Sometimes it ends with us in an uncomfortable or dangerous situation. 

As we “Send It” this year, may we all make sure we’re listening to the right voices. The voices we know, we trust and we value.
