When You Face Death Directly On The Face

Living Water

by David Nehrig, CSUS National Director

This last month, my family has been hit with what feels like a tidal wave. One week we were celebrating my boy’s graduation from High School, another son from 8th grade and the youngest promoting into middle school. The next week we enjoyed a full week with the family and my parents cruising around Alaska seeing so much of Gods beautiful creation. Then the tidal wave hit; my mom landed in the hospital. The doctors discovered stage four aggressive pancreatic cancer. A week later she was sent home on hospice.

As my family and I try to come up for air, after the terrible news, we began the mourning process. We laugh, we cry, we share stories and at the end of the day, we rest in the peace. My mom will get to be in heaven, with her Creator. She has left a legacy of following Jesus for 77 years. Loved others like Jesus. Led by the example of what it means to love God and others so well.

Words can’t summarize all the feelings and emotions, one goes through when you lose a loved one. But I can say this for sure, it is a lot easier having a hope in Jesus.

As we go about our days and weeks may we remember the hope we have in Jesus.

Hope is found in the promises God has given us – promises of freedom from sin. We can find so much hope in Scripture. Through the gift of eternal life made possible through His son, Jesus Christ. No matter what trials, temptations or pain we may suffer, we can always hold onto the hope God extends to us.

1 John 5:13-14

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

David is the CSUS National Director. David and his wife Amy live in Huntington Beach, CA and they have 4 sons, Bob, Tripp, Tanner, and Curren. They are a family on mission and enjoy traveling as a family to reach surfers around the world.
