What’s the longest flat spell you’ve experienced as a surfer? A month or two? Have you ever moved away from the coast for an extended period of time or, say it ain’t so, permanently? As surfers we have an unexplainable pull that draws us to ride waves. If we lose the ability to surf, we feel like something is missing and we aren’t ourselves.
If you have decided to follow Jesus, there are times when we feel distant from that commitment. We can feel lost and misguided and even like God’s love for us is gone.
Jesus spoke of a “living water” in John 7:37-38. This is where the name for this weekly devotional comes from. He said, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
Are you thirsty for the love of God in your life? Have you been through times that were worse than flat spells with surfing? Maybe you are are experiencing one of these “thirsty” times right now. If so, Jesus invites you to simply “come” to him. He is the source of the peace, love and truth our soul cries out for. If we do not seek Him for the living water he promises, it would be like driving to a desert when you are going through a flat spell in surfing. We have to come to the source. In surfing, that means just staying near the water. The waves will come again. With our faith, only Jesus can quench our thirst. Come, and draw near to the one who provides living water.
