From Death to Life… by JW Kaiser
The third wave of the set is about to break on your head, and you just came up for air from the other hold downs. You wonder how this going to work out. After turning end over end for what seems like an eternity, you start to hit the panic button. Which way is up? Is there a forth wave ready to greet you if you do make it back to the surface? This is not what you had in mind when you paddled out. This isn’t fun anymore. You want out.
When friends and family went to Jesus on behalf of their friend and brother Lazarus, things must have felt fairly hopeless at that moment. They had giving up on the chance that he wasn’t dead. They had no hope other than the smallest bit of hope in Jesus. But with Jesus, the smallest bit of hope is all that is needed.
A dead man was raised to life that day and it wasn’t just the life of Lazarus that was changed. When what was dead turns to life people change and hope is found. When hope is found friends and families are changed. After that communities are changed.
Jesus came to give hope to the hopeless. He came to bring life where there appeared to be only death. What are you facing that is worse than a four wave set hold down? Are you about to give up hope? Even it is the smallest bit of hope in Christ, that is all that is needed.
“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” The words of Jesus, found in John 11:25-26
