No Shoes, No Service by JW Kaiser

Have you heard the saying “No shirt, no shoes, no service”? It’s a common rule for the restaurant industry and the rule unfortunately applies to surfers too. Most surfers have little use for shoes most of the time, unless you want a bite at a restaurant after a great session. You can see from the photo of one of our favorite CS groms, Noah Allen, there are a few creative ways to get around the rule even if you forgot your shoes.

Most people, Christians and non Christians alike, think that there are similar rules that apply to our faith and the Kingdom of God. Do this or that and you don’t get into the Kingdom. Act the right way and play by the rules, you get a seat at the table (metaphorically speaking). Yes, there is the law that God himself established to give us the benchmark of what it means to be holy and righteous.  But who is righteous? Romans 3:10 tells us “No one is righteous; not even one” and goes on to call those unrighteous “worthless.”  Yikes. Sounds like none of us can get a seat at the table.
However, God had and still has a plan to get us in (into his presence) and it’s not just creative, it’s the most sacrificial and loving plan that’s ever ben unleashed on humanity.
Here is an explanation from the Apostle Paul in Romans 8:3-4:
“For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
Here’s my own dumbed down version of the same truth: Because of God’s love and sacrifice of his own son Jesus, we are in!!! We are in when we don’t act right. We are in  on our good days and bad days. This Easter season remember we are in, we are in, we are in… because God made a way for us.
We are in even when we forget our shoes.  Just don’t forget his sweet and sacrificial love for you!
