What’s Your Stance?
By Pat Cummings
In surfing you’re either a regular foot or a goofy foot, thats your stance, those are your two choices.
In life, we have a lot more options to choose from with regard to our stance on how we live life.
We could take an aggressive stance, or a “take it as it comes” stance or even a “I’m not getting involved” stance. Sometimes circumstances cause us to change our stance in mid-stream.
May I suggest from time to time you take a “contemplative stance.” I googled it and according the Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart “a contemplative stance is a way of praying about and living our beliefs and values as individuals and as a community. It offers a way of making wise decisions through deep discernment by integrating the facts, beliefs and values and consequences.”
The Sisters get the idea from Jesus. In Mark 1:35 Jesus gets up very early and goes off to be alone and pray. It’s how He would get His mind right for the day and stay in tune with His Father’s will. It’s how we as surfers, on a dawn patrol, can get our heart, soul, mind and strength in line with God our Father.
Imagine adoring, confessing, thanking and asking God about things before riding on some sweet waves that He created for you that morning! Is there a better way to start the day?
In these dark days we need to be in touch with THE LIGHT! Jesus said in John 8:12 “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Take some time everyday…be alone and silent, read His Word (the Bible) and then talk with Him. Take a contemplative stance!
