Shortboarders VS Longboarders

In areas where surf conditions vary between playful waves in spring/summer and powerful surf in fall/winter, surfers often accumulate different boards for each season. Longboards are ideal for mushy waves, while shortboards handle heavy, hurricane-driven surf. Surfers are often identified by the type of board they ride—whether as a longboarder or shortboarder.

Similarly, Jesus is identified by what he rode during his time on earth, which symbolized different aspects of his mission. For example, Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem during Passover, fulfilling Zechariah 9:9’s prophecy of a king arriving “lowly and riding on a donkey.” This event is recounted in the Gospels and is celebrated by Christians on Palm Sunday.

In contrast, Revelation 19 describes Jesus’ return as the Son of Man, riding a white horse as a warrior king: “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. […] He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. […] On his robe and on his thigh, he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.”

Jesus embodies both peace and warrior qualities. On one hand, he is often depicted as the peaceful, humble servant who brings salvation through his crucifixion. On the other hand, he is also the mighty warrior king, returning to judge and destroy evil, as described in Matthew 24: “They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”

When it comes to Jesus, there is no controversy: He is both a humble servant and a warrior king.
