Purpose:
The Regional Coordinator is a vital leadership role within Christian Surfers United States (CSUS), serving to grow and support the mission of “Taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to the surfing community” in their designated region. The position combines pastoral care, mentorship, event coordination, and administrative duties to carry out the mission of CSUS along with the growth of chapters, recruitment and development of chapter leaders, and impacting the broader surfing community with the love of Jesus.
Region:
A geographic area of ministry as outlined by the CSUS Executive Team.
Regional Coordinator Responsibilities Chapters:
- Chapter Visits: Visit all chapters in your region at least 3 times per year. Engage in chapter gatherings, prayer meetings, leadership meetings, and recreational surfing to foster relationships.
- Chapter Leader Mentorship: Cultivate deeper connections with chapter leaders through one-on-one meetings (e.g., coffee, meals, or surf sessions) to provide pastoral care and mentorship for their spiritual and emotional health.
- Event Participation: Attend chapter-organized events such as campouts, BBQs, or surf contests, as your schedule permits, to demonstrate support and encourage community engagement.
- Grow CSUS: Actively engage in development in your region to plant new chapters and expand the reach and ministry of CSUS in your region. Coordinate and develop relationships with new surf communities and recruit chapter leaders and chapter support to ensure a strong CSUS Chapter.
- Training and Support: Provide ongoing training and support for current Chapters and Chapter Leaders/volunteers and execute the Mission Field Guide plan for new CSUS Chapters. Help Chapters with fundraising efforts.
Mission
- Foundations Training: Utilize the leadership training curriculum provided by CSUS to equip and develop chapter leaders in your region.
- Local/International Mission Trips: Lead or participate in mission trips to provide transformative experiences for chapter leaders, youth (groms), and others, including non-believers, within the surfing community.
- Regional Campouts: Organize at least one regional or multi-regional campout per year, inviting all chapters in your area to gather for worship, prayer, and surfing in a community-focused setting.
- Regional Initiatives: Develop creative programs to meet the unique needs of your region, aiming to draw surfers closer to Jesus and deepen their faith.
- Partnerships: Develop and cultivate partnerships with Churches, other non-profits, Surf Contest organizations and surf industry companies in your region to help CSUS serve and grow in your region.
Regional Coordinator Leadership Development:
- Connection with Executive Leadership: Engage in regular mentorship and pastoral care meetings with the Chief Operations Officer (COO) and National Director (ND), connecting quarterly outside of weekly staff calls.
- Training: Attend weekly staff calls, retreats, and periodic training sessions to stay equipped for ministry.
- Spiritual Formation: Work with executive team to develop a spiritual formation plan to grow in your walk with Jesus. Our goal for our staff is that they fall more in love with Jesus through them serving with the mission of CSUS.
Local Chapter Engagement:
- Leadership Role: Actively participate in the leadership and activities of your local chapter to stay grounded in the ministry. Help facilitate the start of a local chapter if one does not exist in your area.
- Weekly Meetings: Attend weekly local chapter meetings and contribute to their success.
- Grom Mentorship: Invest in local youth (groms) and leaders through personal discipleship, outings, and recreational activities.
- CS Girls: Help them include them and grow them.
Administrative Duties:
- Background Checks and Compliance: Ensure chapter leaders have completed background checks, insurance requirements are met, and chapter dues are paid.
- Regional Calendar: Create and maintain regional calendar
- Budget Management: Oversee budget for region (i.e. staff, expenses, administrative
costs, events and initiatives), ensuring financial accountability.
- Event Coordination: Plan, organize, and execute regional and chapter events while
keeping detailed records of logistics and outcomes.
- CSUS Branding and Marketing: Work with Communications team to ensure Regional Communications and branding is aligned with CSUS. Provide metrics and testimonials for the Communications teams to share with donors, churches, etc.
Donor Care and Fundraising:
- Fundraising: As CSUS staff, fundraising is a key component of your role and as such will take up about 25% of your time. Your goal is to consistently raise the budget. Proactively engage with donors through meetings, lunches, and calls to secure financial support for the ministry.
- Tow Team: Build a team of individuals who support you and ask alongside you to help financially sustain and grow your ministry.
- Updates: Provide quarterly updates to donors via email or video, sharing ministry progress and stories.
- Personal Connections: Build genuine relationships with donors through regular personal meetings and engagement.
- Donor Care: Personal thanking and annual donor appreciation events (e.g., BBQs or dinners) to celebrate their contributions and share ministry impact.
Personal Care and Well-Being:
- Leadership/Mentorship: Establish a relationship with a trusted, older mentor to guide you in personal, spiritual, and leadership development.
- Personal Health in Ministry: Prioritize rest, nutrition, and personal health to sustain long-term effectiveness in ministry.
- Solitude: Set aside 1 day a month for solitude to get away and plug into Jesus.
- Your First Ministry: In CSUS we are family on mission. Our goal for our CSUS staff is that their relationship with Jesus and their family is their first mission. The goal for CSUS staff is to create healthy rhythms in both their personal and ministry life.
Travel:
As a CSUS Regional Coordinator, travel is an essential part of your role. This includes travel within your region, travel within the US and also international travel for mission trips, staff trips and international CS gatherings. Your RC budget and subsequent fundraising efforts will need to factor in the costs associated with traveling for your role.
- Region travel: Chapter Visits, Regional Campouts, Church and partnership meetings, new chapter development, Chapter events, regional contests and other regional related events.
- In Country Travel: CSUS Staff Meetings, National Mission Trips, CSUS National Gatherings
- Out of Country Travel: International Mission Trips, CSI Area Gatherings and CS International Gatherings
Expectations:
- Alignment with Mission: Embody and promote the mission of Christian Surfers to share the gospel within the surfing community.
- Commitment to Regional Growth: Demonstrate initiative and creativity in fostering regional unity and growth. Develop and implement a regional growth strategy in coordination with the CSUS Executive Team.
- Healthy Regional Funding: Raise the necessary support for you and your region. The expectation is that staff is 100% funded. CSUS will provide anything we can to help support and encourage you in your fundraising.
- Spiritual Leadership: Lead by example, modeling a Christ-centered lifestyle and inspiring others to grow in their faith.
- Adaptability: Be flexible and willing to adjust plans to address the unique needs and opportunities within your region.
- Excellence in Execution: Approach all responsibilities with integrity, diligence, and attention to detail.
Reporting:
The Regional Coordinator reports to the COO and the National Director and collaborates closely with chapter leaders and other staff within Christian Surfers United States.
This role requires a heart for ministry, a love for the surfing community, and a deep commitment to walking alongside others in their faith journeys. The ideal candidate will be a servant leader with strong interpersonal, organizational, and spiritual leadership skills. The candidate will also embody what it means to be a surfer. Regular surfing, involvement in the surf community and a love for the ocean is a key to serving in this role.
