Our Weekly Devotionals Written By Surfers For Surfers

Vastness

I feel incredibly blessed by the Lord to have paddled out in some of the most beautiful corners of the Earth. From the barren coastlines of Mexico to the wild jungles of Indonesia, each spot holds a distinct memory in my heart. For some, it’s the quiet peace of an uncrowded lineup. For others, it’s that rush of adrenaline from seeing a mountain of water. Some waves are etched in my memory. The first time I almost got barreled. My best turn or that one section. Each experience is cherished for the unique way it changed me.

Just like places to surf, different passages in the Bible have stuck with me, too.

My favorite is John 21:25: “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.”

The Jesus we meet in the Gospels is a breathtaking display of glory, but He is showing only a fraction of His authority. I often find myself wishing I could read every untold miracle, every quiet word of healing that didn’t make it into the text.

Just as the ocean is too vast for us ever truly to explore, Jesus is too infinite to ever truly finish knowing.
