We have some pretty amazing surfers from our beach. I love it and hate it when I see them paddling out to the spot I’m in. I love it because I know I’ll see some fantastic surfing. I hate it because I know my surfing is not and most likely never will be as dialed in as theirs.
Watching someone excellent in their craft is special. They took an interest, had the desire and ability, and then put in the necessary time, energy, study, trial and error, coaching, and mentoring to make it beautiful. It is definitely something to admire. It’s a gift used well.
God calls us to Himself through Jesus and says “follow my Son” and “learn from Him by studying His ways & walk in His steps.” This is an invitation to a lifelong journey of dialing it in with Jesus.
Even though I want to quit surfing when the local rippers show up, I take their example and make a decision to work toward being the best surfer I can be and never stop learning.
Jesus has shown up in our lives and invites us to follow Him, learn His ways, dial in as best we can to walk with the Father as He exemplified.
Colossians 2:6 says, “as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk with Him.” We received this relationship by grace through faith, and now we walk by grace through faith into deeper and sweeter fellowship with Jesus.
Ephesians 4:1 encourages us to take our identity in Christ and live it out, constantly integrating His life into our life.
Also consider meditating on Romans 8:28-29 throughout today and be encouraged. In these verses, ask: “What is God’s goal for my life?” As well as: “How am I dialing in this gift in my life?” Check out 2 Peter 1:1-15 and 3:18 for bonus content.
