Horizons

One of the hardest parts of surfing can be the waiting.

You’ve paddled out, made it through the whitewater, and now you’re sitting beyond the break watching the horizon. Sometimes it feels like every wave is going to someone else. The ocean gets quiet. Nothing seems to be happening.

I’ve found that following Jesus can feel a lot like that.

There are seasons when you’ve been faithful. You’ve prayed, trusted God, and kept showing up. Yet the thing you’ve been hoping for hasn’t happened. The answer hasn’t come. The opportunity hasn’t opened. And if we’re honest, it can be easy to wonder what God is doing.

But just because the ocean looks still doesn’t mean it’s not moving.

Any surfer knows the next set is already forming somewhere beyond the horizon, even if you can’t see it yet. In the same way, God is always at work — even when it feels like nothing is happening.

The horizon may look quiet, but God isn’t.

The next wave is coming.

“Let us not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time, we will reap a harvest of blessings if we don’t give up.” — Galatians 6:9
