Just Let Go

Written By: Maddie Malmsten | CS Carlsbad

One day, I was going for a surf, and the waves were really big. The current was super strong, and as soon as I started to paddle out, I was being swept towards the pier. I paddled harder and harder away from the pier so I wouldn’t smash into it. The harder I fought, the worse my situation got. I felt my mind start to panic, and I began to get very tired from paddling so hard, and in that moment I heard the Lord’s voice say, “Let go”. I stopped paddling, and I let myself get swept into the pier. As I got close, I closed my eyes, afraid I was going to smash into it, but when I opened my eyes, I was already almost out the back. I had been pulled into a current created by the pier that effortlessly pulled me into the lineup. As I was sitting out in the lineup, the Lord spoke to me and said sometimes we have to let Him bring us into the things we are afraid of so we can experience His grace. When we let go and trust him instead of running away from the things we are scared of, we are met with his grace and his love that will be the very thing to carry us to where we want to be. The harder we try to fight on our own, the more exhausted and burnt out we are going to feel. We should let go and trust that God’s grace is sufficient and that we are safe in him. He wants us to succeed, he wants to carry us out the back, we just have to let go and trust him.

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. By faith we understand the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. Hebrews 11:1
