Back at my van and drying off, I took a moment to give thanks for a fun morning of surf. It was my first session in trunks with just a top to keep the breeze off. There were a couple of friends to cheer on and laugh with (or at). What a refreshing time in God’s playground! So thankful.

When I drove off to start a full day, I hadn’t noticed I left something behind. Later that evening, I got a second sesh in with just trunks! Sorry to my cold water fam but, Ahhhhh! The warm water felt so nice.

Early the next day, I received a text asking if I had time to grab some of the leftover swell. Excitedly, I went to grab my top. It wasn’t where it usually dried, and it wasn’t in the tub under the bed in the van. Where could it be…gasp! My top was last seen hanging on a pole on the side of the road from yesterday morning!!!! Noooooo!

I drove to that spot on a mission! It was the opposite direction from my friends, but I had to go! I had to search for it. It was important to me.

The urgency of the mission that morning was because my top was lost and had value to me. I made the time to go after it. I went out of my way to find it. I prayed and hoped I’d find it.

The mission of Christian Surfers points us to the value of the “lost” in God’s eyes. Those separated from God and without hope need to be found.

Luke 19:10
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

To be “lost” is for something to be separated from where it belongs. We are made for a relationship with God. Each of us is separated from Him by our sins. He loves us still and has provided a way for us to be reunited with Him. Jesus was born uniquely, lived sinlessly, loved perfectly, died sacrificially, was buried solemnly, yet rose victoriously to make the way back for us to have that relationship with God.

John 14:6
“I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me.”

My neoprene top awaited my rescue. I knew exactly where it was, so I went on a mission to get it back.

Perhaps you’re “lost?” You feel like you have been left out to dry by this life. Don’t believe the lies! God knows where you are! Jesus loves you and came on a rescue mission for you. Millions have been found and restored to find their purpose for life – to be loved and to love.

Reach out today to someone whom you trust and loves Jesus; tell them your story. Jesus still saves! Check out Matthew 9 and read about those that Jesus loves.

For those who have been “rescued,” let’s step into the mission of CS so that every surfer and every surfing community might have the opportunity to know and follow Jesus.
