Slowing Down & Stretch

You can always tell who the more “mature” surfers are by the way they approach a surf session. The younger guys sprint down the sand and charge out into the water. The more seasoned surfers will stop, take in the scene, and begin to stretch! Neck, shoulder, torso, legs, etc. The mature mind wants to go charging out, but their bodies remind them why it’s important to slow down and warm up.

However, the benefit of warming up the body pays off with a better session, less soreness, and reduced risk of injury. Spiritually, we are all in a maturing process. Our zeal for Christ early on often grows through experience toward wisdom. The mistakes and frustrations of our early walk with the Lord have a way of shaping our hearts deeper and fuller with Christ.

Groms need wisdom, and the old salts long for that energy that comes with youth. I think that’s part of God’s design for discipleship within the family of God.
