As surfers, we all know that there is something we have to do daily when we go out – and that is waxing up our surfboards. I can think of all those times when I go out in the water, and I take my first wave and instantly slip out. And the first thought that comes to my mind is I forgot to wax my surfboard. All of us know that the wax we put on our surfboard is the traction that we need to actually stay on the wave. And, it’s a daily thing. Even though I just waxed up yesterday, I have to do it again tomorrow, because that traction needs to be applied.
In the same way, I think of Psalm 119 verse 105, which says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
Reading God’s word should be a daily application that we do every single day. It’s something that helps us go throughout the day, because once we start a day, a bunch of stuff starts coming at us – whether that’s doubts, fears and temptations. If we don’t start our day in the word, we’re not going to have what we need to stay grounded in the truth when those things come. So for us, just like that reminder to wax up daily, we got to be in the word daily too.
